MCA for 1.12! And, an explanation

8/27/2017

Hi all! MCA has finally been updated to 1.12, and it only took a year to complete!

I wanted to post a little bit of an explanation here as to why this update took so long. In summary:
  • Got married
  • Moved out
  • Wow, married life is expensive
  • omgwhydothingscostsomuch
  • Work harder to pay married life bills
  • Taxes
  • Tuition / college semester
  • Get new job
  • Tuition again / another college semester
  • Get better at job
  • Work on huge work project for several months
  • Finish project
  • Finish semester
  • Hey look, free time!
  • Load up MCA on 1.12
  • 1.12 is horrible
That basically sums up the last year for us. I post this not as a sob story, but just to give a little insight into my own personal life. As mods seem to be updating less frequently, and even with some deciding to stop updating entirely, keep in mind that a lot of modders may be finding themselves in a situations such as ours.

Modding (for most) is a hobby. We do not do this professionally. For large mods, it can be like a part-time job. So imagine, like in my case, working full-time, going to college full-time (hooray for night classes), and then stacking another part-time job on top of that.

For those that finally find the free time to begin working on their mods again, it's discouraging when you see just how broken everything is when moving to a new version. That, coupled with sorely neglected  or unclear documentation as to what changes are required and how to use new systems included in Minecraft, the entire update process becomes extremely frustrating.

This is a trend that will likely continue as Minecraft continues to update. That is, until they finally manage to dissolve the game itself into nothing but JSON files.

We will stick through, because for now the events going on in our lives allow just enough free time for us to do so. This may not be the case for many others out there. So instead of ranting because a certain mod isn't updated, or complaining because a mod is no longer being updated at all, try to wish the modder the best in their endeavors instead, and move on.

Thanks for reading.
